WV, hope to see ya on the trail, maybe give the water slide a try.
I think you have the location correct. I've seen it, but never slid. I expect the experience varies considerably with the season, weather, water temperature, and amount of flow.

I'll watch for you. We should be at the campsite on Raven Ridge Thursday night. Wednesday's location could depend on when we start hiking and which way we do the loop, but we should pass near the water slide either way.

    Crackedup,

We played on natural waterslides in my younger days over in PA. Don't know what Dolly Sods slides are like, but we'd wear 2 pair of shorts because the slides had a tendency to rip up the outside layer. The picture looks awesome!

I'm still in. I'm actually planning an overnighter this weekend to the forks, just to get out of the house for a weekend.

For the september trip, It's looking like an overnighter for me too (Sat - Sun), but we shall see.

It is getting close wi1ecoyote. Good bump. I am so looking forward to this trip. If I can get out of taking the little lady anywhere, I may head up for the whole week.

This sounds like a great time. I've spent many days and many miles in and around Dolly Sods. It is an absolutely wonderful place to go if you haven't been before.

That having been said, I am going back there this Fall with another group. We were going last weekend but that fell through due to half of the group not being able to make it.

I will keep this trip in mind. It sounds like a blast. If for some reason I can make it happen I'll join in. If my group trip happens to overlap maybe we can meet up.

I would agree to who posted about the weather changes. My buddy's guy lines broke on a MH Trango tent (4 season) with 70mph winds on top the Roaring Plains near the intersection of TR524 and TR521. We ate dinner with no wind and by 4am it was absolutely crazy out. My MH Hammerhead (combination 3/4 season) flopped all over the place down lower. I used rocks to tie off the tent to and had to get up every hour or so to re-position. Needless to say it was a sleepless night. The upshot is the high lands don't have anywhere to hang Down in the low lands around Red Creek shouldn't be too bad unless a storm blows through. Be careful with the water rise. If you get a storm you could crawl out of your hammock to a lake if you get close to the water.

If the Sods and you guys can handle one more hanger/backpacker newbie, it looks like I can make at least the Sat/Sun portion and maybe Friday depending on schedule.
