Santa Fe River (Central FL) Aug 19 - 21

Give me a break with all this A/C! I need some AIR!!!
If anyone would like to join Gumbo and me, we're going to try to do the Santa Fe the weekend of August 19-21. We found a beautiful site that we want to go back to and try out. Obviously that's pretty soon so we'll need to get crackin' if we're going to make it happen. We'll need some level of commitment pretty quick. So c'mon, speak up y'all!
If you'd like to go but don't have a yak or a canoe, post it - I'm sure we can come up with something for you. Plus there's plenty of rentals.

    Possible Maybe

Put me down as a possible maybe.....I've got quite the list of home projects to finish on the "honey do" list. I may be able to score a weekend pass. I just hope the weather cools off some or we get some serious rain. I'd bet even the Santa Fe is kind of low thanks to all the dry weather.

The Santa Fe is spring fed so it always full, and clear and cold. You'll be looking in 10 to 12+ feet of water to see a dozen fat and lazy fish cruising around looking for an easy lunch.
We'll probably spend the weekend at this one site so if somebody wants to come up on Saturday or just spend the day, or spend the day fishing instead of paddling, it'll be easy to accommodate everyone.

I don't know how hard it is to catch fish when the fish are staring back at ya, but I know there are plenty of them swimming around the spring near the campsite. When no one is fishing, I'll probably take a swim myself.

Anyone who only wanted to camp one night could easily do so as the take out point is only about a 45 minute paddle farther upstream. It's such pretty spot I don't think I'll mind staying there a second night since it's a very quiet area of the river.

Wish I could, but the wife would kill me if I tried to go that weekend. If I wasn't going to ONF earlier in the week, maybe, but as it stands...

    Duffy,

We are planning to camp about 45 min upriver from the take out point of the 47 bridge. There is a campsite area with a single campsite that is managed by the Water Management District.

Good meeting you too Ray! The Sante Fe is a favorite summer camping trip of ours so I'm sure there will be another trip. Be on the lookout for planning for the 2nd Annual Florida Hang next month. You won't want to miss that one!
