Line for whipping or tieing off the hammock end.

I have made a hammock body and now I need to know what size line to use if I decide to do the channel tie off like Knotty has on his example... also, if I decide to whip one end so I can adjust the sides, what size would I use there. Thanks for any suggestions.

I've used Paracord with success. If your doing a gathered end, whether whipping or channel gathering the cord itself isn't being used to suspend the hammock. So the only consideration is having line thick enough to not cut into the fabric and really anything atleast 1/8 should be fine.

Would amsteel 7 64 be okay for either of these ends.

I'd avoid Amsteel. It's way overkill for creating a gather and for whipping it may be too slick, allowing it to slip on the hammock material.

I saw your posting Knotty and went and reread your thread and see you used 2.2. All I have is 1.75 and guess I will have to wait and get something in that size. Not sure where except online since we really don't have suppliers locally.

I use braided mason line. It hasn't failed me - yet

I use... shoestrings. Like the 72 " inch long round brown ones. And they do keep my ring from pulling through the gather. And they held up the horsetank full of water, plus the hammock full of water. The rope broke, the whipping was fine. I think anything is fine.

I use zip-ties and just snip off the excess after cinching.

The 2.2 is for the structural ridgeline.

On most of my gathered ends I've used gutted paracord or mason line. All it does is create the gather so almost anything is strong enough since it's not structural. Plain old string will work too.
