Quest, Thats normal ops for slow/off-season from the ferry service.
The 5:30 is a general disclaimer. Probably issued that statement after someone threatened a lawsuit over "you said you would get me back to the mainland at 12:00.."
Weather has a big factor in time frame.
Busy season, Memorial Day thru Labor Day is a two boat gig, off season is one. Generally, they are extremely punctual.
At least from what I've experienced.
Maybe a call or e-mail to the ferry would clarify?

They run the ferry pretty punctual. I wouldn't worry too much about that 5:30 time. They might not even need to hit S. Manitou, unless they have campers there. And obviously weather is always lurking in the background though.

Temp right now on NMI is .... 36* ... Sweet ... ! Temps seem to be the norm in northern Michigan of 70 high and 55 low but, as you can tell by this mornings temp that it will get lower at night.

34* in Ludington this morn. Had to turn the furnace on yesterday! Looks like a good time to bust out the extra insulation for this trip.

I'm soooooo looking forward to some cold weather hanging.... My GF is pretty sure there is something loose in my head after I told her that this morning.... LOL........
