watching somebody cut through multiple layers of amsteel could also be "interesting"

+Many on the release!
I just use a piece of braided mason line as a release line, works perfect. And it allows you to open the nacrabiner with gloves on

I didn't much care for the release line either .
I elected instead to leave a form my loop by passing the rope completely through itself, run the cordage parrallel to itself for a bit, then run it back into the main strand. A stopper knot is still used to secure the end.

Tension placed on the closed soft shackle still retains a tight closed loop on the shackle. The lines running parallel allow for easier slacking of the end loop just as a release line does, just without the added line.

All of my soft shackles are now configured this way. I even use zing it shackles double wrapped on my suspension. Haven't taken a spill yet. I promise to to let you know if and when it comes to pass...
Thanks for sharing!!

Nacrabiners/soft shackles are such a pain to open if you have to pick them apart to do so. Glad you got out of there in time.
In the pic below the dark gray shackle uses a pull string and the light grey one uses a sliding solomon bar knot. I find the ones with the solomon bar to be easier to use and make.

MAN! that storm was MASSIVE. there was so much lightning. i was driving to basketball in harrisburg when the big part of it went by.
scary!
I like 'biners!
Glad things worked out for you those were some wicked storms. Working outside as a carpenter I am often reminded of the fact that weathermen are paid to be wrong 80% of the time. I still have lots of questions about different suspensions; and look forward to going to the fall hang to see the different rigs in use, so I can figure out which will work best for me.
Peace,
Gris
Can you add a quick release to an already completed soft shackle?

Put a piece of zingit through the loop and tie it in a loop. Next time you need to open the shackle grab the zingit and pull open the loop.
