    Waterproof Nylon?

hey guys i am looking for a waterproof nylon rain fly for my hammock.

i want something that can pack tight, as i like to pack light and small when i am out. i am told that regular nylon isnt waterproof, is this true?

what kind of material is a regular fly made out of?

this is what i bought and i am not happy with it.. it is too big, heavy and bulky when folded.. i got the 10x10 tarp...

You heard right, regular nylon is not waterproof. What your looking for is silnylon. It's basically regular nylon impregnated with silicon to make it waterproof.

Are you looking to make a tarp or buy one?

i have thought about making it, but i am not sold on the idea yet. i have a sewing machine and have made stuff in the past.. but still in the research part. once i have more info i will be able to better make a decision.

This tarp has grommets which tend to tear out.

This is a polyurethane coated tarp and is much heavier than similar sized silnylon tarps
