I would think as long as the band was at the lid area where you normally wouldnt have water at the very top of the pot then it would be find. but thats only if its an alcohol type stove where the heat is only on the bottom. it would probly melt with other types of stoves.

    Heat rating on bands

I wonder if your bands were silicone? My bands, like most silicone, are rated for 500*. Silicone does not melt, according to http://www.chemiedidaktik.uni-wupper...ure/rubber.htm it burns at 842*. I have gotten it to burn, but it only leaves an ash.
Sounds like a lot of useful heat escaping up the side. That's the reason I like the Caldera Cone design so much, it collects the heat at the bottom of the pot.

Does the 12oz size fit inside the 24oz size?

Update: I have 7 or 8 of the 24oz cans available, and 2 dozen 12oz cans.

It appears that all of the 24 oz cans have been spoken for, waiting funds from 2 members on the last two. I have one member on standby in case one sale falls through. Still have plenty of 12oz cans.
