    Freshly hung in Oregon

This season, I decided to try the hammock thing. I picked up an ENO lightweight model at REI and brought it with me on my section-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in southern Oregon the second weekend in June. There was more snow than usual, but that's a different story.
Anyway, the first night, I discovered that using it has a fair learning curve. I'd bought about 50 ft. of tent guy-line and used that to hang the hammock. I was a little concerned about it supporting my weight. What do y'all use to hang y'all's hammocks?
After entering the hammock--which was tricky given that I also had to enter my sleeping bag, too--my rear end was touching the ground. What have y'all found to be the optimal height for hanging a hammock? What should I expect the line tension to be?

Welcome to the HF from Canada!

For hanging there are a number of items but polyester straps and Amsteel Blue rope (both over 1500 break strength) are very common methods. Take a look at the suspension forum here for some ideas and check out dejoha's hammock sheets for excellent overviews.

Welcome to the forum! GrizzlyAdams has a 3 part video series on hammock suspension systems in the stickies section (top part) of the suspension forum. Here is a link to part 1: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8843

I consider this the authoritative guide to how to get your hammock up in the air--covers the three main mediums (rope, webbing, and constrictors), and gives you the pro's and con's of each. INCREDIBLY helpful because a person could read for months with all the available info on this forum and still be no closer to a solution

You live in a beautiful neck of the woods to be hanging. I lived in various parts of Oregon for a couple of years--loved it.

Again, welcome to the forum! Hope to hear all about your future adventures
You're gonna need a bigger hammock
