Smile Second Annual John Rock Hang

A great bunch of folks got together in the woods this weekend past (Aug 5th-7th). I want to thank everyone who made this a memorable event – Thank You!

Hangin’ Burrito and I arrived bright and early morning on the 4th soon to be joined by Hickery. We all made a second trip to the vehicles to bring up more food, beverages, a communal tarp setup, and extra gear to cover anyone that might be lacking in any way. Following that we did some bushcraft, ate a bit, felled some dead trees and cut a lot of wood. Following the inevitable afternoon thunder shower we started the fire, ate some dinner, chewed the fat, and prepared for the weekend to come.

Friday morning we got up, cut more wood, and waited for the troops to arrive. By early afternoon folks started coming in and the woods began to look like a nice little village. We ate dinner and had a great time around the campfire.

Saturday morning a few more folks rolled in and a large group took the hike up to the bald on John Rock. We sat there looking out at the beautiful forest that is Pisgah, took a few group shots, and just started our descent when the heavens did open. The trail became a torrent in just minutes. Thankfully everyone made it back to camp in one piece.

We all dried off, a few more folks rolled into camp, we got our fire started up again, and had our communal dinner. The night was filled with great food, good conversation, comic banter, and a few fish stories.

Sunday morning was nice and crisp. Folks arose with sleepy eyes and began moving about the camp. By and by everyone packed up and made their way down the trail. It’s tough see the end of the hang happening.

Anyone with pictures or video please post!

    Thanks again to everyone!!!

Yep, the camp site was great! Thanks everyone for the great time. Even the rain came at a good time. I was indeed in need of a shower.

    Best wishes: Lump

You three (and others) went way out of the way in making sure everything was ready for the rest of us. Even a special trip for charcoal so we could have a fire Sat nite since all the firewood was soggy. Enjoyed meeting everyone and there was lots of food even! My two newbies enjoyed and learned alot! Preciate a great time. Only downsize was I saw stuff there Im gonna have to dip into my budget to get. Naww.. money is only temporary, might as well use some for fun, right?

Great pictures! As you have opportunity, maybe you could add some captions/commits, giving names, etc.
For those of us who didn't get to join you & meet you in person, at least we could put names w/ faces

Just last night I was watching part of a documentary on PBS last night about the CCC & the work they did back in the days, & John Rock was mentioned a couple times. The CCC had one of their many base camps there.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Thank you for the complement. It is much appreciated.

I added what names I could. There were a lot of people and I am not the best with names. If anyone could add any better information, I would appreciate it.
