Hey folks, this weekend I took my hammock and tarp over to the park near my house so that I could talk about how much I like them in front of a video camera! In the video I show a Switchback hammock, Mountain Laurel Designs cuben hex tarp, an obscene amount of Dutchware gadgets, and a couple of other things that I've been working on.
Really the thing that I'm excited about are the guyline attachment points for the tarp. I saw a video on here a while back where a guy tied monkey's fist knots to use as part of his system, and I think that what I'm doing here is very similar. Monkey's fists are very hard to tie using these small, slippery ropes, so I congratulate anybody that can do it. Instead, I chose to use a diamond knot to close up a small loop of dynaglide and then to girth hitch this loop from my tarp's tieout points. It's explained better visually, but essentially the diamond knots act like buttons on a shirt, and the fixed eyes on the guylines act like buttonholes.
When the temperature around here gets back down to non-lethal levels I can't wait to get out and try this stuff out on the trail
