A friend and I made the pilgrimage down to the sacred rails-to-trails ride on the Greenbrier. I did it last year but did it north to south & return. This time we did it south to north & return. The GRT has a 3% uphill from the south to the north. We got on the trail and made the trip up to Anthony where WV met us. We had a great dinner at WV's!!! WV then took us back to the trail to camp out at MP 12.8 campsite.
We biked up to Seibert and had a lunch at Jack Horner's Corner store. It has food, pizza, convenient store & gift shop stuff as well as some bike repair supplies. Then headed north to Marlinton, Wv for dinner at DirtBean Cafe & Bike shop. The smoothies are fantastic. We continued up to MP 63.8 campsite which as a 3-sided shelter. I hammocked but my friend stayed in the shelter. Then up to Cass, Wv the end of the trail - 77miles. We had brunch at the General Store and rode back south.
I had 3 flats and my friend had his bike trailer break 3 times. The Hardware store & DirtBean Bike shop helped fix the trailer so we could continue. Of course we ate there again. Stopped at Seibert again and camped at MP 28 campsite before heading back to the car. We had to ditch the trailer for later pickup at MP 30 in case it broke.
The GRT campsites are great for hammocking. Most sites have a water pump and outhouse. All have a picnic table and fire pit and there are 2 shelters in the north section. Its a great place to hammock and bike ride. We took dips in the river several times a day to cool off and refresh.
Photos will come later when my friend emails them to me.
We had a great time despite mechanical problems and hot weather. We especially thank Dave & Barb for their great hospitality!
