    Best way to clean HH

I've read that hand washing a hennessy hammock with mild detergent is the optimal method for cleaning the hammock. I'm simply wondering what type of detergent/soap everyone uses so I can feel safe cleaning mine. I just got back from a camping trip at the Fiery Gizzard trail in Tennessee. The combination of rain and sweat made my hammock smell just a little better than dog poo. Any suggestions for how to/what soap to use would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

My personal preference is Atsko Sport-Wash, sometimes found in the camping/hunting section of Walmart, Amazon.com, website, and others. To be safe, I would also recommend hand-washing in a large tub, but I think after one particularly sweaty section, I did put my hammock into my front-load washer and used the delicate cycle. Of course, hang the hammock to dry it, don't use a machine!

I've used the same sport wash on down and it worked very well. It's super concentrated so you don't need much. It's specifically formulated to remove odors as it's made for removing human scent from your hunting clothes.

I'd think that a bit of Woolite or other gentle laundry soap would work just fine too. I'd let it soak in a tub for a while, then rinse several times and hang to dry. Should be fine.

One of the upsides of Atsko is that it can rinse out compeletly, leaving no residue. One of the most important of these is no perfumes or UV brighteners to attract or deter the wrong critters.

Hmmm, I was wondering about this too. Excellent to see it here answered. Birds been pooin' on my tarp and one got my bug net. Amazing it didn't splat through lol. I hit it with water and mild detergent which got rid of it...but after this season I would like to clean it up real good. Then maybe a permetherin treatment. Thanks folks for the soap suggestion.
