    Advantage of a HAAB?

Getting ready to make the next hammock or two and am curious about possible advantages in making a HAAB. Is there really a difference between that and, say, a whipped speer-clone?
I can't think of any differences, but I've never tried a HAAB to know for sure.

haab is just an end gathered rectangle, same as a speer, should be no difference. you can really do the whipping any way you want. this is where you can make some changes. some folks adjust the sides or middle section to get custom lays.

HAAB normally refers to commercially made hammocks like Ticket To The Moon, Trek Lite, or ENO. As WBG said, a hammock with a channel on the end and a gathered end hammock like a Speer are about the same thing. They feel about the same when you lay in them. The only real difference is how the ends of the hammock are whipped

a HAAB type is easier to make consistantly in a production environment - the shape of the end determines exactly how loose or tight are the sides and center of the hammock - no issues with getting the whipping right, just sew the channel in the slightly wavy end and you get the same results time after time

This is kind of what I expected, but I was wondering, as it seems like this seems like a common technique for the commercial hammocks.

This explains why it's a common technique. Thanks!
