    My family rocks!!!

Just gotta brag about how my family not only understands my new obsession with hanging while camping....they're enabling it!

    Today is my b-day.

My wife...knowing my insistence on self-reliance...took me to Dicks and told me I had $100. So...I finally picked up a water treatment system that I can use for myself or for the crew when we go out together (Sawyer 2liter). Also got a sun hat that I've really needed this summer.

Oldest boy then proceeds to take me to Bass Pro. Picked up some good underclothing that will help a lot in reducing pack weight and increasing comfort on the trail or just in camp. He's also INSISTING that I pick up a decent compass (I'm ex Army, prefer the paper map and compass for reliability).

Youngest son (and fellow hammocker and HF forum member Weasel) picks up a set of lightweight trail pants, undershirt, and overshirt.

I'm finally hitting the trail without ANY military gear on my next run. All of this will greatly reduce my packweight...and I'm SOOOO looking forward to hitting the trail and getting some hammock time like this!

Lucky! I just hope that the familys (wife and mine) get that we are now doing the outdoor thing. Sure could use some $$ to make/buy gear.

    Nice!
Aren't you going to have camo withdrawals after dumping Uncle Sam's gear?

I've got 2 Alice packs sitting on the floor in my spare room. I won't use them, but can't bring myself to get rid of them either!

Poncho liner is another story. Use that all the time!

When you do head out, take lots of pics of the area, your hammock and your new gear! Enjoy and Happy Birthday!!!

Nice! I had a birthday last week and got $200 worth of REI gift cards from my mom, son and girlfriend. Saving up to put towards a GPS for my JMT hike next year.
