Just returned from a much too short 4 day stay at Conrad Meadows next to the Goat Rocks Wilderness in the Central Cascades, about an hour west of Yakima, WA.
The hammock made quite the stir in camp. We brought the hammocks because we had planned on camping off the horses in the wilderness area near Surprise Lake but the snow level was still too low to take the horses there so we just made day rides from the horseman's camp.
Even though we weren't sleeping in them (the camper's queen size mattress is pretty nice) we did hang the hammocks for those late afternoon naps in the warm sun.
On a whim I took my Eno Double on a day ride and one of the people we went with was interested enough that he asked to sit in it and promptly took a nap while I fished (that's the top pic).
One other highlight, among many, was the military jets that use the valley for low level flight training. On more than one occasion very low flying jets thundered past just a few hundred feet above the valley floor. Quite “exhilarating” on horseback.
If you're interested you can see more the Goat Rock's area here
Next week we head into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness for an overnighter off the horses and we'll be hanging there as well.
