Anyhoo, I got that done and fumbled my way back to the hammock to try and get back to sleep. I somehow missed the hammock and sat in the underquilt. Now the underquilt, being supported by elastic shock-cord kind of let me fall to the floor in slow motion. However, it reached the end of it's strech then retaliated by launching me backwards out of the quilt and onto my back - soaking wet and onto a bed of pine needles.
    What?! No pics?

What a great story! Thanks for sharing.
What a great time with your grandson. No doubt he will remember it all his life. (Especially the above cited episode.)

Looks like ypu picked a great spot to set up camp. Nice gear too. Funny how somethings become humourous afterward, but not so much at the time.

Looks like you both had an enjoyable time in the pineys. Thanks for sharing your trip an posting pics.

You didn't make your grandson take off his shoes in camp... Did you?

Sounds like an awesome time and I bet your grandson thinks so too. That's really cool that you got to spend some quality time with him. Do you have any pics of those sand dunes?

No I didn't. The photo where he is warming his toes at the fire was taken just after he got back from fishing for sea trout (he didn't catch any though) and his shoes and socks were soaking.

During the 10 days he did a shoreline forage, gathered limpets and winkles, cooked them up himself and ate them. He did some night sea fishing for mackerel and river fishing for sea trout. Didn't catch a thing though (but it was fun trying). He also did a grade 4 rock climb and did a lead climb for the first time.

We also made some camp furniture from twigs and string.

It's a camp stool and can be made in about 10 minutes. When you get old and stiff, it's thing like this that can make life more comfortable.

I wish I had some time like that with my grandpa. He died when I was a baby, but I've always had a fascination with his life. Lucky kid there to have a grandpa like you. Thanks for sharin!

just a quick comment on the first two pictures:

you need to calm down; you're never gonna last at that pace.

looks like you two had a great time, i can hardly wait for similar times with my grandkids.

How nice. Did your grandson like the hammock?

    Great bushcraft furniture too.
