trekking poles for tarp setup?

thanks everybody for the replies. I'll probably be taking a trip to Wally World and grab a pair there. i still might make a pair cause i just like doing DIY stuff.

Duane, man that video was perfect for me. I didnt even think of using the trekking poles for some of those configurations. I really want one of those tarp tubes now. ill be checking out the rest of you videos soon.

Also eno, if you want to improvise while you're out in the wild you can just grab some long sticks and rig your tarp up with those in lieu of trek poles, i do it all the time.

Maybe there is a golf bag in the garage with some clubs collecting dust? A hack saw, some sand paper, a razor knife and a little mason line can transform those elongated dust collectors into something useful.

I use them to open up the tarp, giving me a lot of stand up room next to the hammock.

My hubs got a set of adjustable poles with the snowshoes he bought last year. I'm pretty sure I'll be confiscating them soon.

I got a pair of clubs, long woods for a dollar each at a Habitat for Humanity thrift store, they must have had a hundred clubs there. Haven't made them yet but couldn't pass up the raw material.

Those walmart poles are OK...but I wore through the cheap rubber tips in less than 2 miles of uphill Trekking (Telegraph pass Trail; Yuma, Az.). I tried both types of poles they had with the different locking mechanisms, but they have the same cheap tips, so I returned both and just used some century plant stocks I had lying around to make some super light DIY poles like I used to use in scouts. I'm happy now and used the money for the Arrowhead sale ! If you need rubber tips, and walk on hard rocky terrain where rubber is best, don't use the walmart poles because they wear the tips out super duper fast. This is my first post on here and I hope I save someone some time and trouble as the hard metal tips under the rubber always slip on rocks and junk and kinda suck once the rubber is gone...
