Snaps for quilt footbox: opinions please!

While cruising the aisles at JoAnn's today, (there's just something basically wrong with this already ), I ran across the snaps in the attached picture.
They are intended to be sewn onto the materials.

I am awaiting materials to make another down top quilt. I was planning to use omni-tape (2 sided velcro) to close up the footbox.
This is my usual method and I've been happy with it. I put a head hole in my quilts to wear them, so I need to open up the quilt for that mode.

However, the omni-tape adds weight and these looked pretty light. When I got home, I weighed them at 9 grams per dozen.
At a 6" spacing, this makes them 1/2 the weight of the omni-tape, which is 3.1 grams per foot.

This is the #2 size which is 7/16" in diameter. They had a couple of sizes that were smaller, but the snaps didn't seem to snap tightly enough to give me confidence.

Does anyone have experience with these or similar snaps for closing up a quilt footbox?

Another option may be to slice the omni-tape in half and use only the half width. It should still close and hold fine and reduce weight. I've seen quilts like that with then one of those plastic snaps at the top to really keep it together. I think the snap may by unnecessary though.

Would you please post pictures of your DIY serape style quilt?

Have used them for a summer weight quilt, they worked OK as long as I put a tie-off (made of a 5" length of drawcord coming out of each side) at the upper end of the run at about my knees. Without the tie-off, the snaps tend to pop open when I thrash about.

I was worried the snap might not hold, although I passed up a couple of smaller sizes to get snappier snaps.
I've heard the same complaint about the omni-tape, but it has always worked for me.
Maybe I thrash less then most folks.

If weight is a concern, have you considered bra hooks? They come in various sizes and are very light...

How about little tabs sewn in and you could lace it like a shoe?

OK! Now we've gone too far! There are certain aisles that I WON'T go down at JoAnn's!

Actually, that's a very good idea John! I know THOSE things don't release easily!

I actually considered this concept, Red.
But, I turned away from it because it was too lightweight and simple, DUH!
