Any tips for getting into HH BE? (1 pic in post)

Just got back from my first hang! (first couple night canoe trip too!) Had a great time.

Any tips on how to get in a HH when you have your insulation stuff in there?

I used a poncho liner, fleece sleeping bag, and Thermarest ridge rest CCF pad.

I had one heck of a time getting in and keeping the top stuff on top and the pad on the bottom. As soon as I got it adjusted where it would cover my feet, it would get pulled off my upper body. Then I'd try to pull that back up and then my legs were bare.

So, how do you get in your HH?

Or did you opt for the 2Q ZQ mods to make it easier?

    Thanks!

I open the bag so that it has a footbox and use it like a quilt. I shove the bag clear into the head end of the hammock before I start getting in.

I put the thermarest into position and then fold the foot end as necessary to clear the entry slit. Sit down on the thermarest and lay back allowing the foot end to unfold into position so that I am laying on the flat thermarest.

Then pull the bag over your head until you can put your foot into the footbox and pull it down. The quilt should then be on you normal with full coverage.

    Hope this helps.

2QZQ zipper mod is the answer or use a JRB Nest under quilt, which has a slit to accommodate the HH bottom entry and a top quilt.

That is probably the best pic I've ever taken.

From the reading I've been doing, the quilts or the 2QZQ mods are the way to go. Planning on sending the hammock off for the mods after this season.

I'll have to wait till xmas to buy the quilts; then I can almost justify the cost.

    Thanks for the replies.

I now use a HH Super Shelter but I used a pad and sleeping bag for about a year or more. When I first used the pad system it was a pain to get in the hammock, onto the pad and into the sleeping bag. The more I went hanging the easier it got. I eventually got use to adjusting the different parts and could get comfortable pretty quickly. The more times you go out the easier it should get. Also if you are using an air pad make sure to not inflate it all the way. A slightly deflated pad will curl around you a little bit and stay in place better.

The HH Super Shelter or another under quilt system will make it a lot easier. I have also been thinking about gettingthe 2QZQ mod done.

    Lovely picture!

As noted previously, underinflate your Therm-a-Rest. Also, try placing a piece of rubber grippy shlef liner below it to help prevent slipping.

I put loose items into a big stuff bag and pull out what I need after I get into my hammock. This works well when the bag is used like a quilt. To use the bag as such, lay the pad in place, folding the feet out of your way. Sit in the opening and pull up your bag as much as you can. You could stand on something and pull the bag over your shoulders and lie back. Or, swing your feet in, get the pad under your legs, then wriggle the bag up around your shoulders. Standing in your bag or using it as a quilt are probably the two easiest ways to get into it and your hammock.

aweasome photo!! but yea I just climb in and then use my hands to spread it open and then adjust my hennessy underpad and undercover. I remember it was kinda tough to deal with a thermarest in that thing though.
