makes sense to me. probably to help contain your body heat around your torso, where your heart is.
I believe stormcrow started making his full lengths to contour to the body better.
I've called it a leg shelf. You can see the shelf on the right side of this picture.

wow weird man, i've never noticed that before. it almost looks like a crowsnest (the left side) with a separate part for what i assume would be the legs (the smaller section). perhaps it is designed like this so it snugs up tightly around the upper body b/c that portion of a person weighs more. if so, it's a brilliant design feature...
thats exactly what stormcrow explained at an ohio hang.... when you're in the hammock, you legs raise naturally- sort of like a LAY-Z-BOY recliner as he described it- creating that gap beneath them. his incubator design is tailored to account for that. another reason i continue to back adam and HG--- that kind of tailoring and R&D is what sets them apart imho.
