bill, this ones a "vacation" event. you can relax, heck if you wanted get a cabin! but no hiking is required, just down/up the hill to the beach.
heres some pics of the area. not all are of the campsite, but is of the whole park.

some more pics.
as far as food goes, a potluck would be great. no grills available to us (because were primitive..) so we can cook as we would normally on the trail. i figure we can fend for ourselves for lunch (theres a cool looking bbq place right outside the park, you pass on the way in. not to mention fast food right off the interstate and within spitting distance) and then do a dinner at night. with the close proximity to stores, food can be fresher.
the water pics here are mostly the beach adjacent to the campsite.
fyi, not my toes...

Wow!
Miss a couple of days and there are 7 pages of posts to wade thru on just this thread.
I really like the ideas of several hangs throughout the state.
I'll be cooking for the Boy Scouts on this Sept 30 hang so I won't make this one, but it looks and sounds like a great place.
Some of us have been talking about an upstate fall hang.
We basically talked about two places-
The Foothills Trail about 5 miles west of the Laurel Valley Access. There is a nice large site there on the creek. It's a rough 5 mile hike in and out but a beautiful destination. There is a maze of roads in the area and one of them is at the back of the campsite. I'm not familiar enough to know if it would be open all the way.
Chatooga River north of Burrell's Ford.
Easier to get to than the FHT and room for a lot of people. If there is a downside, it's that you'll see more people. I would suspect that we would have a better turnout here.
I'm planning to be in the woods at one of those places November 11-13.
If I can do both by the end of the year, that would be great.
I've camped at Huntington Beach in the primitive area. I'd do that again in a heartbeat.
Hunting Island near Beaufort would make my short list too.
He is your friend, your companion, your defender... he is your dog. You are his life, his leader, and master. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of that devotion.
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.
Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......
thanks rev, i really like santee sp, i have done a fair amount of canoeing on the lakes, rimini swamp is in my opinion one of the most beautifull places in the state.
i'm really gonna try to make it , but my dog will have to come, i can't leave her home after being gone for 2 weeks.
i really recommend the bbq joint in lonestar, the guy has a collection of old stores and other buildings that he has brought in and there are lots of cool old stuff to look at while you eat. on thursdays they used to have bluegrass bands in there

As of right now I'm in. I told my son about it and he seems interested too. Plus I might have a few ground campers that would want to come as well (future converts possibly).
When do you need a head count by and how much was it per person?
Life looks better from a BIAS hammock.
