    trekking poles for tarp setup?

Hey guys, first post! I have a kelty Noah 12 for my hammock setup, but I wanted to set it up with trekking poles on the ground just to try it out (mostly for fun...because why sleep on the ground when you can sleep in a hammock lol). One problem, I do not own any trekking poles. So, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on buying a pair or if I should use something else or DIY. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Check out thrift stores for ski poles, they won't be adjustable, but it will give you perspective...have fun!

Trekking poles are one of the few things you can actually save money on by DIYing them. Mostly DIY is for fun and bragging rights.

You're going to get responses that range from "just use trail sticks" to "use a pair of bionic carbon nano fiber poles that do the hiking for you and never forgets your birthday " it really is up to you. Can DIY anything from broomsticks to perfectly sized carbon fiber poles. Personally I've yet to have any trouble from my Walmart pair I got for a measly $25.

I use a set of Wally World poles (around $26 for the pair). They're not the lightest, but I haven't had any issues with them and I absolutely love the cam locks on them.

If you'd like to see me use them as poles for my tarp, you can see them in part three of my Z-Packs tarp video. You also get to see me stung by a wasp as well

If you're interested, here is the video:

I really like those poles, though, and have bought a couple of pairs. You really can't beat the price, and they'll give you a base of reference to determine whether or not you want something different.

Let us know what you decide!
