I modified a nanatuk down bag as an uq. 3/4. I then sewed a .33 Cuben sheet to cover all the underside. This makes the underside prob. watertight. adds prob. .66 oz to wgt. no condensations of course as the H2O vapor rises. Also acts as a wind barrier. Seems to be an elegant solution, I have used this for 2 or so yrs now, no problems.gnome

No problem at all making one and I imagine it would be super light. Personally I am not a fan of CF3 against the skin. Also, it would act much like a vapor barrier. There is a certain skill set involved with using a vapor barrier for insulation. The ability to manage body moisture becomes critical. As temperatures drop, staying dry becomes more and more important. Plus, mylar against my skin all night is what I call a long night...

Here is an interesting article about vapor barriers written by well respected member Dave Womble aka Youngblood.

As always that is just my opinion. HYOH of course. There are some beautiful Cuben bags out there and that get some great reviews.

i see what you're saying. the cuben in a 3 season or winter wouldn't be on much bare skin though. maybe my hands only. so that'd take care of a lot of the claminess of it.

Picked up my UQ today and all I got to say is amazing! Summer phoenix with 1oz overfill, cuben on 7d, comes in at 8.96oz! The 7d is the best thing that has ever graced my hands. Can't beat a 9oz quilt that I'm more than confident will take me to 30 degrees, maybe even lower.

Thanks Adam and Jen, it was more than worth the wait.
