West Marine is usually expensive.... for just about everything. My brother used to work there and even with the employee discount their prices sucked. Even with the cost of shipping www.strapworks.com is much cheaper, and you can have them make you lengths of webbing with loops on the ends, which they call their "Simple Slings".

I tried this. I actually cut one with a pair of bolt cutters and couldn't get it to twist open. Didn't think I was that out of shape... Also, they are coated in plastic and I didn't want to have to strip it off. They look to be welded together (not a regular closed-s-shaped hook.)

The easiest way to cut the hardware is a grinder with cutting disc or hacksaw.

the grinder's at home and I don't know where the disc is (I'm 4 hours away at school) and the hacksaw blade is dull...

Or you can twist and wrestle open your wallet, pull out that credit card, and order straps from Strapworks or Ed Speer... delivered ready made to your place of current residence.

LOL, now thats funny . I actually have The Travel Hammock ultralight coming soon, so I can use that in the mean time and order my rope or webbing online. I will use the ultralight to take with me on day hikes to set up quickly and just relax, should be nice. I will get a tarp and use it for summer hammock camping. Bugs don't get too bad here in northern Georgia at night. You only have to watch out for them dusk, they go crazy at dusk.

Yeah, I think that yours must be welded together, the non-welded ones twist apart with almost no effort.
