Just go to a lumber yard and ask them if you can take some of theirs. Almost all lumber comes in Tyvek and most places throw it out.

DO NOT use fabric softener, according to reports it seems to break down the bonds between the fibers. I wouldn't even use detergent, maybe a small amount of something very mild.
To "soften" tyvek I suggest stuffing it in the drier on no heat and throwing a few tennis balls in with it.
