    A hard lesson learned

So yesterday I printed up a Hobby Lobby coupon and headed to JoAnn fabrics to get 40% off ripcord. The only thing good in color was a medium blue labeled for 6.99 then got an additional 40% off.

Borught it home got out my wifes dusty Brother Sewing machine and grab a bunch of scrap pieces and practiced hemming.

Let me tell you, I was terrible and couldnt figure it out. All my hems looked like the drawings of a 1 year old.

Now my wife enters and gives me a little harassment and offered help.

This is where even after being married for 9 years I still have lessons to learn.

I just laughed and said "I am sure you cant help me with this, its been years since you had this thing out and i dont remember you ever making anything."

I know, I know...rookie move..but being married to a wonderful patient woman who knows my short comings jsut laughed and walked away saying "Your probably right," and then volunteered to sleep out with the kids in the tent last night so I could get my new sewing project without much interruption.

Now lets fast forward till 3 pm the next afternoon and and i am still trying to get a straightline and braggin about the lines i arleady have.

It still looked bad just not as bad as the day before. She finally came up when I was about to take another go at it and nicely took hte machine from me as i was about to feed and flipped the Presser Foot tothe down locked position...................she then looked at me and asked if I was ready to learn from my mistakes.

I have to say I laughed pretty hard at all this. After a few pointers me hemming was very straight. I had no clue that the presser foot would kinda do an autopull and just keeping the line guide lined up was soooooo much easier.

She been laughing at me for the past couple hours, well deserved on her part.

Ive posted some pic of my hemming stuff...nothing from the start mut earlier today when i was proud of it, and some of the before and after presser footing fix photos.

Glad to see you are learning to sew, it is so much fun. I worked with my daughter today and she had the same problems letting the sewing machine do the pulling and just guide it.

When the Missus laughs and walks away saying, "You're probably right," sirens go off, and little red flags start waving in my mind. Any more, I read "You're probably right" as "You aren't anywhere in the vicinity of 'right', and you will sheepishly remember this conversation when you find out--if you ever find out."

While the Missus finds experience to be a great teacher for me, she apparently finds humiliating experiences to be the best teacher for me. It bothers me to think how frequently I need to be taught .
