My DIY tarp and pole mod (the rivershack)

Recycled some stuff from an old tent and used Joann ripstop with DIY silicone seal. It is roughly 10x12. Used goofy colored grosgrain loops for identification. These are pics of it after testing waterproofness...It worked BTW. Will be used mainly for canoe camping this winter...we actually swim here till december
just wanted to show off what a person can do with minimal sewing experience and a lot of research.

Excellent tarp for canoe camping! I love the pole mod.
Great job with the pictures documenting it, too.

That makes me wish I could sew! Nice looking job!
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.

That looks awesome.... I tried to incorporate some tent poles into a tarp I made, but it failed miserably.... yours is much better

Thanks guys; It sure is fun bringing all my hammock theories to fruition. The folks on here have given me countless ideas to tinker with. We get two hammocks under it just fine using 3 "trees" I also bring it down to the river for float downs and stuff so we can get a bit of shade for the coolers, women, and whatnot. I will get a pic with a hammock and in porch mode this weekend at the river to show how large it truly is...

Nice to see you have your priorities in order. Drinks, women, everything else :P
So what do you hang from? I know there aren't any trees in AZ...

I left out how much my dog likes it too. We have both the Gila and Colorado rivers here in downtown Yuma. We are in the desert, but right in that corner of Mexico/California/AZ. Fortunately, over the last century the local and state land governing agencies have limited farming near the river in order to allow the natural vegetation re-populate the Gila river flood plane. We have many large cottonwoods as well as huge mesquite and palo verdes. All these trees work well for hammocks. They just don't get too big outside of the river valley. I am also working on an anchor system that will be mounted to some rock walls in our local desert mountains so we can sleep on the trail out in the Yuma foothills.
I am so addicted to building things; the lack of trees just necessitates a bit more creativity and thinking "outside the stuff sack".
