Whistle as Marling spike in hitch?

Just trying to find double-duty what for I carry; I realized that my (Bobby"s?) whistle would also work as the toggle in a Marlinspike hitch. Now, do I need two whistles? I have a metal toothpick holder that I might carry now that it can be double-purposed. Then again my toothbrush handle sawed off to about three inches...(Sawed off a little longer???)

I like the idea of double-duty items. But a whistle AND a toothpick holder (not sure that would make the cut in MY ultra-lite kit) are both HOLLOW. So, they might not be the best idea for toggles. The force on the toggles is COMPRESSIVE.

Just grab a couple of sticks in camp--as big around as your thumb and short--no more than four or five inches or so--and NOT rotten or soft. They weigh 0.00000000 ounces in your pack!!!

Aren't the Easton tubes hollow? I get that trail sticks are everything I need in the way of a toggle but many outdoors people recommend carrying a whistle and it would take me forever to carve one from a stick. Then again, I probably won't have much else to do while I'm laying there with my broken whatever. The toothpick holder was just sitting on my desk as I was typing the OP and thinking about it; there are times when I really need one but I was forgetting I carry the Victorinox when I'm not at the desk.

I'm planning on bike touring and I envision wanting a whistle when I come out of the mini-mart and see someone making off with all my worldly goods; to get someone's attention to "Follow that bike!".

I just cut some out of pvc pipe i had lying around. so they were free and light. but like pip said you could always just use wood from around the campsite.

I camp in bear country, so I wouldn't want my whistle unavailable should I need to make some noise. Hmm... come to think of it, where did I put my stinkin whistle anyway?
