    ? From a newbie

Might be in the wrong place but....

In the massive amount of "learning" I have been trying to accomplish I have noticed in a lot of videos folks talking about the advantages of cooking breakfast and coffee without getting out of the hammock in the morning...

Sounds wonderful but I've had beat into my head time and time again hanging bear bags with anything that smells (food/personals etc.). So are you guys just not in bear country or do I need to quit with some overprotective practices and start waking up with a warm cup of coffee underneath my swinging rear end?

I do not keep ANY food or toiletries near my hammock. My dad drilled that into my head (along with a few other things) a long time ago. I don't find it a big deal to get up and make my coffee, I usually need to pee first anyway...if I didn't, I probably wouldn't bother getting up

After my experience this last weekend at Ocala National Forest, I'm sure never going to cook anything near my hammock again!

Now, if it's the dead of winter and the bears are hibernating...that's a different matter. Shug has a couple videos where he's hanging in twenty below zero weather; I'd expect the bears to be sleeping the sleep of the dead during that time period. But, my camping being in Florida...well...

We do have bears up here in Mn. But, you don't really have to worry about them. I for one am just lazy and do not want to get up just to grab breakfast. So, I stuff my morning food in my ridgeline organizer and I have my stove all ready to go on the ground next to my hammock. I don't recommend it however. I am just lazy.

I mainly camp here in ohio, so no worries of bears. Granted there are other critters, they never messed with me. I keep my food in my gear organizer, usually hanging from the tree about 4' up. Bad practice and I sweat I'm putting together a bear bag kit soon.

I like to get up and pee before I make my morning coffee. Plus hot coffe and food lying down in a hammock just sounds uncomfortable to me.

Just grabbing the food bag on the way back from morning bladder voiding is my method of choice.

I love my morning hammock coffee, have excellent bladder control, and there are no bears in Scotland

As I go to have a morning pee////I grab my bearbag with food and get in hammock and enjoy.
We have black bears where I live but but I am just boiling water and will take the risk for that wonderful moment.
