    Thread Injector thread problems

Sooo.. even my wife cant figure this one out.

After hours and hours of practice hemming I finally took a crack out the real thing, well first real thing..I am still saving ripstop till i am a little more knowledged. Anyways, after I finished the 2 end hemmings which I thought went very well in my opinion, meaning my wife didnt laugh too hard or even pat me on the head or say "isnt that cute," my thread injector started having "issues"

I pinned the long side and started to feed it through..about 3/4 the way done I realized there was no thread in the hem..Well I found that problem fixxed it. Somehow the bobbin was just jammed up.

Now my problem everytime I try to sew anything is the thread bunches up in the bobbin and stops the thread injector. i keep cleaning it but it works for 3-5 secs before it does it again or the underthread hangs down terrbily.

Any advice before I take it somewhere to have it looked at. The whole point was to rty and SAVE money on a hammock, at least for now.

    Thanks much

try changing the orientation of the bobbin so that the thread is peeled off in the opposite direction. you can also play around with the thread tension.

Are you using a decent quality thread? That will make a huge difference. Also, I had a similar issue, I had some itty-bitty bits of thread jammed in the bobbin holder. Once I cleaned that out & used some good thread, most of my problems went away automagically.

And of course start every project with a new needle!

But ... sounds as if this machine is due for a "tune up" at the store. Just like old-timey cars, sewing machines need tune ups regularly, based on usage. And it doesn't hurt to think of a timing belt that "jumps" a single sprocket notch.

In all likelihood you wound the bobbin badly. This happens when you don't keep a steady pressure on the foot pedal while the bobbin is winding. It is effectively the same probalem as snags in the reel of a fishing line. The layers don't set down properly and get cross threaded.

You may also have some top tension issues. But my first suggestion would be strip down the bobbin and re-wind it carefully making sure not to wind it too fast or put too much on the bobbin. Overfilling the bobbin can have the same results.

Make sure the bobbin is feeding properly as it unwinds. This is most likely _not_ a bobbin tension issue so don't mess with that.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    uneven stitching

I would check to makie sure the thread is coming off the bobbin the correct direction clockwise on my singer,,,, check and make sure the thread is evenly wound on the bobbin, and you are using the correct bobbin, don't go by looks alone, it might say class 15 and several look the same. Also go online and google sewing machine problems like you are having and you will find helpful webpages.

Here is what was happening. 1st photo is the really stuff. the next 2 is the progression after I redid the bobbin and respooled it all from fresh.

Seems to be getting better after teh "fix" but those weirdend loops concern me a little.

    Thanks much,

Use a longer stitch length, check your top tension.... It might be too low.

One thing I found is that somebody had messed with the bobbin tension on my machine. I tightened it up JUST A HAIR and all was good... Don't mess with it, though, unless you follow the instructions in the manual! Messing it up will ruin your life...

A good quality thread is key. Are you using a standard-thread or heavy duty or nylon thread?

A spool of gutterman's and a new needle make life easier...

When you start and stop at the end of the stitch the take up lever _must_ be in the far top position. Make sure that you turn the fly wheel by hand until the take up lever is at the top of its travel. Don't watch the needle for that. Watch the take up lever. The needle can look like it is at the highest and still give you that kind of result because the loop is not completely pulled up.
