    Hot weather hanging

How are you all doing in this 90 deg + day and 70+ night temps? I find it hard to sleep when it's not below about 60 deg at night. That means it will be 65 or 70 until about midnight anyway. Too warm for me to be comfortable. What about you? Any suggestions?

I would for sure wear a tshirt to keep my back from sticking to the hammock. I found a 4"X4" fan at Radio Shack that runs on a 9v battery, hung it from my ridge line - that helps. Also I leave off the rain-fly, and try to hang where the breeze naturally flows.

Personally, I just hike until I'm tired enough to go to sleep regardless. 15+ miles does it for me.

Otherwise, I find other ways to exhaust myself: biking 40+ miles, bushcraft projects for 8+ hours, having 6+ beers with friends, etc. As long as I'm tired, I can sleep in just about any weather. And sleeping in a hammock in these temps is a whole lot better than sleeping on the ground, for certain.

I find that no matter how hot it may be, after I've been laying in my hammock for a few minutes I cool off nicely and I'm scaring away any woodland creatures with my snoring.

Of course finding something to tire me out is a bonus and always helps.

You boys down in the low lands have it to hard. Here in the mountains we almost never see night temps above 40. Even this time of year.

Until last week the over night temps in my area had not been below the upper 70s to low 80s. Suddenly we're down in the mid to low 60s and it feels wonderful outside at night.

here in southeast arkansas its hot and humid. we had a brief reprieve but august has reared once again. i strung my jackrbetter spreader yesterday with tarp and some gear. went to a local bayou on some property i own.

its just too much right now. simply the effort of getting into the hammock begs a river of sweat. there's no way to get comfortable even after setting motionless for a while.

i may hit the mississippi river this afternoon where there's always a breeze. problem is, the rattlers are beginning to make the fall move to fatten up for winter. being off the ground is certainly a good idea.

the main event for my night last night was twofold 1) testing my new sunwayman lights which are tremendous torches, and 2) wandering back to my car then home after admitting that drowning in one's sweat in the heat of night is contrived entertainment at best.

    cheers
