Does tarp suspension need huggers?

My tarp currently has paracord that was supplied by the manufacturer and I was wondering if I should use it alone or in conjunction with huggers when hanging from trees.

Huggers would make the whole system heavier but a) I don't want to damage the trees and b) The added friction of Huggers may help prevent the tarp lines from slipping.

Do you use tree huggers when you pitch your tarp? What is your rational for doing so? (damage/slipping/something else?)

Tree huggers, or straps, are not necessary for tarps. Once your tapr is pitch, nice and taught, it shouldn't bear any additional weight or movement that would necessitate using the protective tree huggers.

I don't use webbing for my tarp, just zing-it line!

Webbing is generally used for situations where the chance of damage to the tree is high like your hammock suspension as the forces that are generated by the weighted hammock/ suspension may cause damage to the tree and the webbing helps to distribute those forces and not dig in to the tree/bark of tree! Generally the forces that are being applied by your tarp are for the most part no where near the same as your hammock even with strong winds, now I am not saying that gale force/hurricane/tropical storm winds won't apply the same and most definitely more stress, but most don't hang in that kind of weather!

Now you very well could use webbing in your tarp suspension, there is/are no rules saying no you can't, most don't as they don't find the need too, and as you mentioned the weight factor come in to play!
