Did your Mountain House meals have the little moisture pack inside them? If it did, did you remove it before adding the boiling water? I almost forgot to remove one once.

You might be allergic to one of the ingredients in your food, I've had the exact same thing happen to me, took me ages to find the culprit, in my case turned out to be some preservatives. I avoided foods with that preservative and never happened since. Lactose intolerance also cause this.

It would have to be something that only Mountain House uses, because I've never had a food allergy before. I'll have to check the lable. Thanks.

Pounding headache would point to dehydration. Drinking a lot of water isn't always the same as drinking enough water. Heat prostration is also a possibility. Twice when I've been hiking, if I've pushed to hard during the day, I've woken up sick in the night. I think the combination of over exertion, dehydration, then eating calorie and sodium dense dehydrated foods was to blame in my case. Getting up in the night to water the grass turned into nausea, sweating, and an immediate need to lay back down or risk revisiting my supper. There is nothing worse than getting sick out in the bush.

Coincidentally, I also use the pocket filter and both times I was sick in the night I had eaten mountain house for supper.

My mother used to warn me not to eat too soon after exertion and not to exert myself too soon after eating. I can remember several times falling ill when I have ignored this advice. Perhaps one of our HF members with medical knowledge can elaborate on my Mother's advice.

Great setup by the way. I want one of those tarps.

Complete Idiots explanation, from a some times complete idiot:

Basically when exerting yourself your body is taping into the Fight or Flight response. What happens when in Fight or Flight mode your body isn't providing enough blood flow to your digestive system and the gastric mobility (speed of food moving through body) actually slows down. The body goes into Fight or Flight mode much faster than it does the Feed and Breed mode, which you need to properly digest food. Also accounts for the feeling of being tired after eating a large meal. More blood is flowing into your digestive system and abdominal area than your large muscle groups.

Sorry about the mess on your boots, maybe try seltzer water and baking soda on that. lol Yeah I love the cuben-y goodness of that tarp and the geometry is great too. It's a little loud in the wind and rain, but I can sure live with that for the weight!
