Ok, I'll call the canoe place tomorrow and make reservations. Pat and I decided we will get regular canoes after all.

    Swede +3, 2 canoes
    WEx +1, 1 canoe
    intheswim +1, 1 canoe

Dutch, Pat, Hank and me will figure out the seating arrangements in 2 canoes. If stormcrow makes it, he'll hitch a ride on one of ours. Same goes for J.Andersons. They're big boats, so it shouldn't be a problem.

As far as I can figure it from the price list on the website, it will be SEK 442 per person for 4 days, including canoe pickup, and we will probably pay cash when we get there. I'll let you know tomorrow.

So we are going paddling tomorrow, renting two canoes from Kanotkungen and paddling from Åkers Styckebruk. We are going to do some recon and see if we can find an alternative campsite a bit further than originally planned now that we have a whole day on day one. This will be our first "training" trip with a canoe, for us and our two kids and the dog. Wish me luck, I will take a few pics of the sites we find.

The canoes are reserved. If we need one more I don't think it will be a problem. They have 60+ more.

Each canoe is SEK 800. Pickup is 500. WEx, extra pickup was an extra 500. We'll haul your canoe back with us.

Also we'll have two trolleys for the land crossing. They're SEK 100 each. So each boat crewmember will pay 400 + (700/12) ~= SEK 460 in cash. I'll collect it at the barbeque and pay The Man when we get the canoes.

I told The Man that we would meet him at 10 am on the 23rd to collect the canoes. If this is too early for anyone, speak now.

Also, if anyone is interested, fishing licenses are SEK 40 per person (10 per day). The Man sells them as well, but we need to tell him to bring the paperwork if we want to buy a license. Let me know if we should do this. I'll probably bring my casting rod and some lures.

Many thanks to those who have pulled this together.

What will be a good way to get Seks? If I just go in any bank with a credit card will they give me some of your funny money. Maybe travelers checks?

An ATM would probably do it, we can fix you up when you land in Mariefred.

Unless you wanna trade some of yer shiny titaniums bits for some SEKs?

My wife and I were just discussing the morning trip. After we have all been out hanging in the backyard, we might need some time to pack, we plan on having most of it done already and can spend some time in the morning making coffee and breakfast, and catch the taxi at 9.30 from our house, still haven't made that call but now that the canoes are reserved and we have a definite (?) headcount, I can book them, are we more than 8 people not including my family? We are going to get a ride with my mother in law. If we are under 8 we can get away with only one taxi.

The Man at Kanotkungen seems like a reasonable guy, I am going to meet him tomorrow before we head out for a test run with the family. Just finished packing and am now going to bed to be able to get an early (9am) start.

What Swede said, ATM's everywhere, or cashback in supermarkets. Traveler's checks are probably more of a hassle, banks around here have a tendency not to deal with cash anymore.

If your card company charges you for international withdrawals, do a big one in Arlanda to cover your expenses in Sweden. If not, use your card (VISA and Mastercard guaranteed, American Express 95%, other cards not so sure) everywhere, just have some cash for canoes and some for emergencies.

    Good job Joz & Swede!

Im guessing that the only thing left to fix is the Steamboat tickets?
Does anyone know what the final headcount is on this?

Should i make the reservations or is someone else looking at this?

I have to say I'm watching this thread with envy. Though I'm not actually working the week of the hang, I have not built up enough credit with the wife to take any more time away from my family.

I am hoping to join you for either (or both) the next winter or summer hang though as I'll be moving to Oslo at the end of September.

Hope you guys have oodles of fun!
