Late September...be sure to be prepared for much lower temps. September is a very weird weather month up in the mountains.

I'm expecting at least 1 dusting of snow.

funny I would come inside from being outside all morning this morning long and seeing this post... as I have been playing with a 10' x 12' silnylon tarp made by OES and tweaking it in full tent mode to porch mode even threw the entire side over for star gazing mode..and all with a sqare tarp. I can completely close ends off,,or move them forward a bit and open about 8 inches to get in and out,,or throw ends over and open while in porch mode..so many ways to tweak a nice setup. And I have been doing this as going to order another tarp for the wife,,just haven't made mind up yet as what to get.

I have that tarp, I love it. I bought it originally for the space to hang two hammocks underneath, but w/porch mode especially for when I have spending more than one night at a spot.

    I'm probably stating the obvious.
Porch mod doesn't work very if snow is expected.
You want the sides pitched pretty steep if you expect snow for the evening when you are not awake to knock it off.

    Typical snow pitch for me...

I go porch mode most all the time. I use the handy free poles that the woods provides (sticks) or my kayak paddle split apart.

Saw a neat vid put up by one of the members a couple of weeks ago that showed them going back and forth from porch to bunker mode without ever leaving their hammock. Man, as my kids would say, ' It was SOOO sweet!'
I can't seem to find the post but I think it was part of a trip report. Anybody remember who it was?
