    Duke - looks really good.
I have a question - wouldn't you want the printing on the tyvek to face outward when in gear loft mode so you are not creating a sink that holds water, also would be better to protect against potential rain splash?

I had no idea there was different types of tyvek
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

Randy : yea but just remember yer roots and where ya come from....you got Hennessy in yer blood son......

From what I understand, Tyvek is not a "one way" material in that it is a moisture barrier each direction and slightly breathable as well. Check this article for the info: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?p=6320
Although not 100% waterproof, it seems like it is about 98% water resistant and will create a sink no matter which direction is facing out. The home builders in my are put the printed side out, for what that's worth.

It has been my experience that the "house wrap" type 12 tyvek is almost as waterproof as silny. (ok perhaps cheap low quality sil, but close) The type 14 is more like a good DWR, and type 16 is, while very breathable, barely water resistant at best. There is an article here that talks about dying the tyvek with a silcone based leather dye. I'm sure that would plug at least some of the micropores and increase the waterproofness.
Some looks like interwoven blue-tarp style stuff. This seems to be what people refer to when they complain about tyvek.

The Stuff that works is like the envelopes that you can get at the post office or UPS stores for free. The type of package you need a knife to get open.

Looks good Duke, how is the carpet tape holding up under the stress of the chord in the channels? I would imagine the tape would come undone -have you used it the field?

I took some Tyvek and collected water in a makeshift sack and was able to PUSH the water on through, but I doubt I will ever be camping in THOSE conditions. Under normal water testing from the water hose and even under some high pressure volume from the hose, the ground remained dry underneath. It's good stuff.

Here's one comprehensive guide to Tyvek -like materials, indirectly from the maker:
