First post AND noob hammock trip in 2 weeks to Glacier Peak Wilderness (Washington).
On impulse last week I purchased the ENO Singlenest while at an REI store and the Eno Profly rain tarp from Sierra trading post (a bit heavy for my tastes but couldn't resist the $35 price!). This setup will replace my MSR Hubba solo tent (3.47 lbs with everything...I love it but may sell if this hammock thing works out).
I have learned TONS already from this forum...i.e. polyester tree straps, Whoopieslings , 30degree angle and why, Marlin spike knot and wider is better for pads. HOWEVER, I am struggling with packing the Walmart Ozark 26" wide pad to my backpack...goodness. It's HUGE..so guess I'll hang it somewhere on my pack. I am resisting a UQ till I have time to figure them out (meaning lowest cost DIY!) and am not as rushed.
I'll continue to search the forums but any thoughts on packing the Ozark to my backpack appreciated . From my prior backpack trips I already have a z-lite, Ozark 20" ccf pad and a Big Agnes Insulated blowup (favorite) but I don't think these will work nicely with a hammock.
(side note: This forum is awesome...have spent much time reading and will spend more. It is similar in maturity to the Triumph motorcycle forums I participate in and also advrider. I recently joined an android forum and I swear 90% of the participants are 10years old ).
