I am truly liking mine so far.....ever so light. The transparency takes a bit to get used to......and I am slow to accept change. Fun looking out at trees and stars.
It is a luxury item maybe better for those with a lot of gear already and wanting the newest high-tech shelter.

my take on it is l LOVE Cuben.... i really love my Cuben tarp
it weighs next to nothing .... and packs down small
but i agree with Adam.... it is alittle over priced right now... LR i really don't see the price dropping that much that fast... i can see maybe to around $200 range in a year or 2 once other CO. start making Cuben like Adam said but that is a BIG maybe....
i think what i was getting at it spend that $300 and get yourself a good UQ and stick with the Silnylon tarp for now ... if you car camp can you really justify a $300 tarp ... No heck car camping i still take a Blue walmart tarp for my living area if i take the family ...

don't feel rushed to have something if you can't Justify having it
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold

We will always guarantee our products against manufacturer defects . In the instance of accidental mishaps, I will make repairs at very reasonable prices. The hybrid is kind of a different animal. It is constructed with CF3 AND Nylon...Both of which are handled much differently when sewing or repairing. If you poke a hole or tear your CF3 inner shell, yeah, I will fix it for free. Please try not to do that

As a backpacker, I would jump on a cuben tarp in a split second if I didn't already have a Spinnaker tarp. The difference between the two isn't much in weight. Although, the cuben would pack 3 times smaller....

Just got back from a hike, and while reading this thread I found myself thinking, "Someone should mention that CTF3 is a lot easier to repair than other materials, especially in the field." (I've had to be pretty rough on my tarp to confirm this.) Then I got to Adam's post and found he had already done so, and backed it up with a guarantee. Overpriced some? Yes. Forces us to decide what we really need. Yes, lose the paperback books first.

Ok - so in summary:

- Spinn: Forget it - no manufacturer of reputation is prepared to use it anymore due to quality issues;
- Cuben: Great if you can afford it, benefits not entirely up to the costs on a rational basis, some concerns remaining about lighter weights of the material but otherwise considered very robust. At least several makers seem to have developed reliable ways to manufacture tarps from cuben.

For cuben as I understand it:
- High U.V. resistance (important where I live);
- Complete waterproof - no misting potential (places around here occasionally record 3 ft of rain in a day so nice to be certain!)
- No stretch;
- Noisier than silnylon but nowhere as noisy as spinn;
- Very light, though not significantly more so than spinn for heavier grades which are perhaps more durable;
- Translucent (does it give any shading - e.g. like say 50% shade cloth or more?)
- Maximum boasting / kudos potential in showing it to outdoor gear freaks

Am I missing anything significant?
I'm not actually looking to do this. Just an idle thought. Some of these kite fabrics are pretty inexpensive.
BER, that's an interesting point. Many moons ago, I used to fly stunt kites. I never built one, but flew some pretty impressive (and sometimes pretty expensive) kites. These thing were very light, using carbon fiber supports, but were strong enough to lift all of my 250lb girth up off of the ground. They were extremely strong fabrics and could take amazing stress from the wind. Not sure of what they're made of. Could they be worth investigating?
