    Question Old Loggers Path Questions

In an effort to hike a loop, instead of paying to have my car shuttled, we've made the somewhat spontaneous decision to hike the Old Loggers Path instead of the West Rim Trail. Tomorrow.

First thing's first - The DCNR site is lacking seriously - or I'm seriously lacking the capability to navigate it. I'd like a map (or preferably a little trail guide) since I'm really unfamiliar with the area. WRT had a place to pick one up - similar place at LSF for the OLP?

Also - Reading about several roads down - how the heck to you get to the trail head without hitting road blocks?

Any other experience that could be helpful will be greatly appreciated!

I don't know the answers to your questions about the logistics around the OLP but may I suggest you consider the Black Forest Trail as an alternative? It is a loop also with many bailout trails located south of the West Rim Trail along the Pine Creek beginning at Slate Run. You won't be disappointed. Great hiking, vistas, water, etc.

Pick up a map at the Hillsgrove ranger station. It's just off of Route 87, on the right, just below the town of Hillsgrove.

    Ranger Station
    4 Dry Run Road, Hillsgrove, PA 18619 (570) 924-3501 ‎

From the station go north into Hillsgrove and turn left onto Mill Creek Road. It will take you to the trail head in the ghost town of Masten.

Ended up going to the Black Forest Trail - didn't end well. Working up to writing a trip report but I'm still sorta bummed.

Sorry to hear your trip was rough.

From what I understand, the PA DCNR is having issues with the images and maps on their website. Its being worked on but for now the best solution is to get touch with the forest district you are headed to.
