I will be following this one closely.... I promised someone I would take them up to the Chattooga that weekend for an excursion. So this might work out great!

I'm drawn to the open country. Its where the world makes the most sense. When I put myself out there I always return with something new.
You guys are killing me! It's no fair putting up pictures like that! It's too tempting to resist..
I wonder how long a drive it would be from Central Florida?
It looks too beautiful to pass up!
Gumbo,
Google maps says about 9 hours.
It'll be worth the trip.
He is your friend, your companion, your defender... he is your dog. You are his life, his leader, and master. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of that devotion.
It s been about 20 years since I camped at Burrells Ford.
What are the average daytime and nighttime temps?
I know there are variables, but on average what temps should we pack for?
Count me in for sure! Looking forward to meeting a few more of the HF Carolinas crowd! I love that area on the Chattooga and have camped there 1-2 times every year for the last umpteen years or so...
I would definately rather hike in to the junction w/ the East Fork of the Chattooga where Swampfox proposes in the OP as opposed to Burrells Ford. Last time I camped at BF campground the guys in the site next to ours cranked up a chainsaw and fogged us out with blue oil smoke as they "roughed" it... The site Swampfox suggests is great and although too far for me to carry a dutch oven, it is close enough to carry some other luxuries (chairs, maybe a few cold ones to sink in the river...)
Weather wise, I think you will find warm days in the low 60's or 50's the night time temps are going to be in the 40's - maybe mid high 30's but I doubt it. This will be the perfect time to go!
Travel for Gumbo from Central FL: Southwest now flys from Orlando to Greenville Spartanburg for cheap so maybe you catch a deal and then mooch a ride from one of us Greenville folks.
I am still on the fence but hafta deeside soon.
If I book like in the next few days is is $396 round trip into Greenville with a 2.5 hour flight
OR
15 to 16 hours windsheild time @ 924 miles at approx $98.00 worth of gas....
dang how bad do I wanna spend the nite in tha woods with total strangers.......

I'd love to make this hang, but I think my wife might have me hunted down and shot for running off to the woods on our anniversary weekend.

Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

You'll really need to watch the weather and decide when it's closer.
I camped there two weekends in a row last fall.
Here is my thermometer hanging from my ridgeline on Nov. 7.
I had to break the ice on my water bucket.
The week before was in the high forties. This happened to be the coldest night of the fall so far.
