Anyone else have hammock maker helpers?

As you might guess from my name on this board, I have lots of this kind of assistance at home. This is the fabric for my first hammock spread out for cutting. It's two layers, and it's all sewn but not gathered, whipped or hung yet.

Anyone else have these kinds of helpers?

(I read a thread about pets and sewing gear on another board and thought it'd be a good idea here, too.)

Yeah. I have some of those helpers. My down quilt was very popular with them, but I was afraid the claws might damage it so it's off limits. God forbid I should pull out some guy line while one of them is in the room.

Sadly, no pets, but I do have some of the fabric you're using there (I think). Works well for a hammock!

HC4U, I'm afraid my cats would decimate anything down. You should have seen the lengths they went to, to get the red bird ornament with real feathers off our Christmas tree!

Kyle, probably, it's a Walmart $1 fabric, about 1.1 oz. and breathable ripstop. The bit of gray you can see over the cat's ear is my 2nd layer, 1.9 oz. breathable ripstop, also $1.

Cat, the green Walmart fabric. Is it a mini ripstop DWR? Is yours 50" wide?

Yep, mini ripstop, 1/8" grid, DWR, but I used either the 64- or 66-inch-wide for the hammock. Can't remember which batch I used, been collecting for a couple years. It's 1.2 oz/square yard. I also have a 6 yard chunk of 48" wide.

Yep got a good bit of this myself. Originally thought it was the elusive WW Sil.
I was afraid to use it for a hammock seems too thin?

Do you think it could work for a quilt?

I'll bet the 1.1 or 1.2 DWR would work for a quilt.

I used it as one layer of a two layer Z-hammock, the other layer being 1.9 oz/sq.yd ripstop. I want to be a little extra sure my butt won't hit the ground, plus my kids are kids and boys, they just simply aren't going to be as careful as they should with a single layer 1.1, if I dared.

Your kitty is so cute!!! I love his black little nose and mouth. I have seven fuzzy helpers. All are rescues. They tag team me. 4 are litter mates that got born to a stray in the backyard, so they hunt as a pride. But life would not be nearly as fun with out the fuzzy beasts!
