Not a hiker but a biker, thanks for the site.

I have been looking for a light weight rig for motorcycle camping, so I might be an odd ball on this site. This site has been very helpful for me and I now have a new HH up in my back yard. I have to learn how to tie knots and all but it's up and feels good. No promises but I think I'll sleep there tonight. High 40's with chance of showers, wind 10 to 20. I bought a "camping/picnic blanket" at Wally World today for $9. It's fleece backed with a polyester shell. Thought I'd use it on the bottom and use a sleeping bag. We'll see. Anyway, I have a lot to learn but this is the place and I can tell there are a lot of warm souls posting. Later

You're not the only motorcycle camper

But my future pictures will have a hammock in them.

What kind of bike? You familiar with ADVrider.com?

    Welcome, YFF.

That "ugly motorcycle" you cut from my post is now all kinds of banged up.
Had a biff this past weekend.

I also like to ride and camp. Will be hanging as often as possible now that I have seen how comfortable. Fortunately on the bike there is no weight penalty for taking both the hammock and ground sleeping gear. Where in VA are you? I am in the southwestern part.

I'm waiting for the BMW f 800 gs to come out this fall. I'd like to get an R 1200 Gs adventure as well. I've never rode a bike on the road before but have played in the dirt a little bit. I'm really wanting something to use during fair weather as an economical commuter. My truck is diesel and at $4.00 a gallon, I need something a little easier on the pocketbook to drive daily.

Cool. I'm Greenflyfarmer on ADV too. I ride a Triumph Tbird Sport and a KTM SXC 635. I'm outfitting the SXC for rides like the TAT/CDT, trying to go low weight. I'm orignally from Marion and ride that area a lot with friends and family. Just rode in the Hales Lake area week before last. My Greatgrand Parents ran the boarding house (Scales) when they logged the Mount Rogers area. I slept good until 2 pm last night comfortable. A cat fight, and my poor dog that kept checking on me and keeping the dog door flapping finally drove me indoors.
