I'm going to be in San Antonio from 21 Sep to 14 Oct for some training. Anyone down there have any suggestions for some weekend hangs. I was thinking about mailing my gear down ahead of me.

Go north into the Hill Country. Don't know any specific trails, but it is nice country.
Trust nobody!
I'm from there although I don't live there now. The area is badly drought stricken, but it should at least be cooler by then. I saw a picture of the Pedernales River recently; almost dry. Having said that, the closest state parks to SA are Guadalupe River SP north, Garner SP is west, Hill Country State Natural area Lost Maples and are northwest. You can google Texas Parks and Wildlife to get more details. Lots more choices if you drive farther northwest, west of Austin.
Have a great time!

Also, check Government Canyon state park, which is on the west side of San Antonio, just outside loop 1604. I think they just recently opened it up to camping.
