    Toggles

Fortunately my job has given me great access to carbon fiber and aluminum arrows. I am cutting them down and plan on making some toggles. My hope is to coat them with phosphorescent paint (extra fun light source on trips) I was wondering if anyone else has done this and how much weight it would add to a carbon fiber toggle.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

That paint coating would probably weigh less than the wrapper of the candy bar I eat in the middle of a hike. And I'm still bringin' the candy bar!

If you're concerned about it, you'll need an extra-sensitive scale to tell the difference. My toggles, for what it's worth, are made of ash branches I clipped from a tree in my yard. Painted 'em red. Weigh next to nothing.

But really, I think you are looking into about 1/2 oz for the paint. It's something that if you want you want. Go for it (Pics please)

If that paint is 1/2 ounce then don't eat it cause it must have lead.

May want to consider how carefully you cut the carbon fiber, any rough edge will allow a conduit for crushing (you wont see on aluminum arrows).

Just because it taste good doesn't mean it contains lead...

Has anybody with carbon arrow toggles tried putting archery inserts in the toggles for structural strength? It would add something like 20-25 grains (do not know weight in grams) for an insert in each end.

The insert would be a piece of aluminum you glue in the end of the arrow that has threads so you can put broad heads or field points in the arrow and change them out.

Just a thought, my being an archer and all

I recently found a good source for toggles--I think....

I found an old wind chime hanging around the house.
It's one of the little ones that you put on a door or over a crib or something like that.
I think its Winnie the Pooh. But the chimes are aluminum, perfectly sized, and they have holes already.

Gonna keep an eye out for more at the next yard sale.

Very nice! I like the wind chime idea. I use the connectors off of some old tent poles for my toggles. Probably pretty close to the same size and weight as the chimes except no holes. Just curious, what do they weigh? I will weigh the tent pole connector toggle (boy, that was a mouthful) when I get home.
