Nice clear videos. I, a confessed landlubber, learned something. It brought to mind something a friend showed me years ago, but which I only vaguely remember. He had a way of tying a bowline that was lightning fast and seemed to require only one action. It involved using a bigger loop and reaching through it to grab part of the rope. Anybody know this one?

Don't have my camera charged, but here is a video we use to train the scouts.... it is called the rescue tie, in case you're in a crevass and hampered by damaged arm. Enjoy.

.... the Aardvark (earth pig)... a rather unremarkable creature whose sole claim to fame is that it is the first animal listed in the dictionary.

I enjoyed the very clear and easily followed instructions. I also liked the "treelubber" comment.

Thanks, Aardvark! I just got lost on Youtube in Bowline-land. My favorite is the slip knot with the end poked through, but this one-handed bowline is nifty (and it has the best sound track).

Great videos Knotty. These will come in handy not only for people to learn how to make these knots, but to make them aware that knowing these is great for their time in the woods.

I'm dating myself here but back when I learned rock climbing techniques, this was how you attached a belay line to yourself. We didn't have climbing harnesses, descenders and such available back in the day. If you practice that until you can do it in your sleep, you can tie it in less than 2 seconds.

    Larkshead and bowline

Thanks Knotty. I've tied hundreds of bowlines but always in the way of a land lover. I like the sailor variation.
