    Recycling tents…

I thought about selling my tent to get some money to by some silny for a DIY tarp, but then I had an idea… Would it be possible to take it apart and use it? Zippers, bug netting, silny (I think), and the little plastic toggles that hold the doors open.

    Any thoughts?

    Tents aren't typically sil...

And, you can get #3 zippers for $0.25/ft, and pulls for $0.25 ea at http://DIYGearSupply.com

He also has Sil 2nds (black) for $5.50/yd... or Camo 1.1 ripstop that's 68" wide for $3.25/yd and then sil-it yourself...

I'd get whatever you could for the tent and end up with better gear than your franken-tent...

    2nd on not worth it.

Sell the tent and use the money to buy a hammock or the DIY stuff to make your own.

What about free broken tents? I work at the dump here and people have been throwing a lot of tents lately. All of which are broken so not worth anything.

I have been recyling tents and making some DIY projects (Money Saver). Check out these pictures...

I used the zipper and bug net for a hammock. I used the top material for a tarp, works good. I stil have more bug net for a couple more prjects. I purchased the tent at dirt cheap for $1.20. I say go for it. Cut it up make some cool gear.

Nice hammock Arok… I wish the tents I've been getting had that big of a bug net section. I did set one of the tents aside to start taking apart when I get some free time, maybe tomorrow.

i've been going to these closeout stores like Dirt cheap. I buy the new tents that no one else will buy. they sell it to be really cheap. I make all kind of gear with stuff. I used the pole from an old tent for a bridge hammock.

Thank you for the comments. I never would have done any of this with out the people on this great forum... Cut it up! Make some gear.

I would like to reuse an old tent to add a bit onto my tarp. Seems like a good way to reuse, and it is inexpensive.

I have been looking for ones that people have thrown out and at garage sales, but no luck yet.

Great pictures! I think I will try my hand at something similar... Thanks for the great ideas Arok!
