I use the evil ENO slap straps so I hang as high as I can but leave some slack. Usually a little above head high.
i hang 12" off ground. any higher Kaia knocks me out jumping in.

I like mine where the edge of the hammock hits near los calsones. That a little bit south of Ur-nalgas.
Years late entry... I try to hang my Hammock about butt high. I'm big and heavy, so I set about 18-20" high.
It's easier to get in and out of my WBBB. After my knee replacement, I don't do lower heights.

The older I get, the more I find that while my sitter-downer works OK, my stander-upper isn't quite as robust, so I hang accordingly. That said, I also don't hang any higher than I'm interested in falling - for much the same reason.

dittoI want the hammock to be a comfortable chair height when I sit in it. This makes it easier to get into and out of.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
If your hammock is a bit low, and it’s difficult to go from sitting to standing without strain on knees etc. While sitting low, put feet on ground and back up or push hammock backwards—this will raise you up high enough to stand up more easily.
Usually my hammock is a bit too high, making me wonder if the hammock will fail as I put most all my weight on the edge hem, while getting out of hammock. Ok so far
