    didnt i read here somewhere that someone was going to start making them commercially?

    Actually there are already lots of places to buy synthetic quilts. (Not to take away anything from Mrprez who, I'm sure, will make great ones.) Remember that a top quilt isn't any different from any other backpacking quilt. Bozeman Mountain Works makes synthetic quilts (you can buy from them or through backpackinglight.com) as does fanaticfringe.com and maybe some others.

    BMW and BPL are the same quilt, and they're not particularly warm (even the warmest one is designed to wear a parka under it) and it's quite expensive for what it is.

    I think there's lots of room for improvement in this area.
