Single Layer you can essentially do the same way, or if you don't want to sew you can seal the ends with a candle flame (there are video tutorials) and whip the hammock ends differently than shown in that illustration.

Just an FYI- if you order this fabric make sure you order more than you plan to use. I ordered a big roll and there was a seam in the middle of it where 2 pieces were put together. Also a few small tears/holes within a few feet of the seam. These were in addition to the cosmetic imperfections that make it a 2nds quality. 95% of the roll was great though.
