    My 1st DIY UQ

So, last night I got bored and decided that I would try to make my own UQ. I do have one of the 20 F cuben Phoenix UQ's coming from HG (and hopefully will be here Tuesday since it didn't get here yesterday). So, anyway, I got it in my head a few items that I would need and found that I had most of them at home. So, I headed to the local Wally world and picked up the remainder of items and came home and went to work.

What I ended up with is a 43x60 inch rectangular shaped UQ that weighs 19.3 oz! (My goal here was to go cheap, just in case it didn't work out.) I am hoping that it will get me to about 40 - 45 F. If not, oh well.

Anyway, I have posted a full write up along with pics and a video on my blog. Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Looks real good. You did put the Mylar on the top/inside or bottom/outside of the uq? I was thinking about reusing an old sleeping bag and lining it with reflective bubble insulatoin and or aluminized canopy fabric. But I'm not sure if the vapor barrier will help.

    Thanks Hang Loose!

    Diz,

Basically, the outer is a piece of ripstop nylon sewn as basically a pocket. I then took a mylar sheet and glued a piece of batting to the top of it, and then slid it into the pocket and then sewed it up. So, the mylar sheet is inside the UQ. But, when I hang the UQ I will be sure to hang it so that the side of the UQ that the mylar sheet is on is against the hammock and the batting is facing the ground. In my mind, this way if I sweat, it will not get caught in the batting since it won't penetrate the mylar sheet...if all that makes sense...

Makes perfect sense, that was how I thought it would be.
